My Curiosity: Uni with a Job

Hey readers and fellow BCM students, I am back with my first blog post of the year. After my first tutorial for BCM212, I was left with many thoughts. Our class brainstormed what it meant to be a student in this course, and all the things we have in common. Most notably, what life will be like after uni, parking on campus, and balancing a job with studies. This last one really stuck with me.

Over the holidays, I managed to find a job. And since being back at uni, I’ve been trying to find a balance between uni and my work. This wasn’t a problem for me last year, since I luckily had saved up enough money in high school, I didn’t really need a job. But, as we know, all good things must come to an end. Thus, I got a job which I now work at 3-4 days a week.

I personally struggle with balancing my studies with work, which has made me curious whether or not other students struggle with the same thing, and how exactly they cope with the added stress of part-time work. I wanted to explore how it affects our studies at uni, and our social life.

So here I leave you with some parting questions to ponder:

i) Do you believe your part-time job affects your studies? And if so, how?

ii) How do you effectively balance work hours with uni and studying?
